LISTEN/MOVE is an album of new music for contemporary dance, and for
contemporary listening. This electronic album is one of powerful, dynamic
timbral explorations governed by a musical aesthetic which is melodic,
accessible, and loaded with imagery.
This CD is one of a limited-edition pre-release production run of 1000
discs. 900 copies were recently distributed to professional choreographers
and dancers via
The Place Dance Agency in London. The recording is
royalty-free for use in dance projects and performances - we want
choreographers to create dance, not call their lawyers.
Much of the music on this album was composed and produced using
framing
techniques - a compositional process which involves building musical
elements from interactive, object-oriented software components. Tracks on
the album are drawn from material in five years' worth of dance performance
projects.
CASSIEL live performances for dance are keyboardless, and make use of
custom-built performance controllers. Our musical process emphasises
articulation, interaction and improvisation in the live construction of
timbral components. This process meshes well with that used by
choreographers, and allows us to perform music without using backing tapes,
sequencers or sampled loops.
LISTEN/MOVE is published by
Atomic City Records, Pittsburgh.
