1 MaxMSP, OpenSoundControl, Zeroconf and Rendezvous {anchor:MaxMSP, OpenSoundControl, Zeroconf and Rendezvous} {image:img=rendezvous_icon.jpg|align=float-right} Very much a stream-of-consciousness thing: I've been doing bits of coding of the {link:OSC|http://www.cnmat.berkeley.edu/OpenSoundControl/} protocol in Java (with reference to the {link:flosc package|http://www.benchun.net/flosc/} written by Ben Chun), with a view to an OSC networking layer within MXJ. I've been led indirectly to the whole world of {link:Zeroconf|http://www.zeroconf.net}, where - computers can connect to a local network without any information about the network itself (via a wheeze known as link-local addressing); - computers can advertise, and search for, services on a network, without knowing what machines are available and what ports are open (via a wheeze known as multicast DNS, with a few wrinkles). I'm getting a feeling that there's some kind of synergy between the whole OpenSoundControl world and the world of Zeroconf (in effect, Apple's {link:Rendezvous|http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/rendezvous/}).
