Baxtrr says: Nick Rothwell's solo debut as CASSIEL is a collage of works created for modern dance companies in the UK over the years since 1991. In that time, Nick has shifted the emphasis of his compositional technique from sequencer-driven songs to a new method of interactive and spontaneous melody/harmony generation. This record, while melodic and exceptionally beautifully arranged, features almost no pre-recorded sequencing or keyboard playing, with almost all of the parts being generated by a complex combination of hardware and software MIDI controllers, clustered around the MAX MIDI applications language. The result bears little resemblance to other electronic music, but is instantly involving and appealing to the alert listener. A remarkable effort, and perhaps a hint at the future of emusic....
