Mac Mini Ahoy

I've just put in an order for a Mac Mini, to be paid for out of the commission fee for the
Triptychos audio/video installation, which needs a small, convenient MaxMSP/Java/Jitter engine.
While it comes under the heading of "cute", a couple of the common arguments in its favour ("it makes a great small-footprint server", "it runs something like Linux") actually don't ring true under close scrutiny, and it's only the installation work which prompted me to buy it, rather than (yet) another Mini-ITX or a Shuttle running Linux. I have some thoughts on how
OS X is not Linux.
(In case anyone cares, I ordered direct from the Apple site, partly because I trust Apple not to make a mess of the rather fiddly RAM upgrade, and partly because I wanted to get as high up the supply chain as possible, since all Apple hardware has teething problems in the early shipments.)
